For over fifteen years, I have had the privilege of working in school districts across the Northeast that recognize the profound value of theater education. The process of creating theater mirrors that of a championship sports team—each member plays a critical role, deadlines are non-negotiable, and success hinges on collective effort and focus. While every production may bring new challenges and evolving objectives, the craft itself remains rooted in discipline, collaboration, and vision.

One of my most cherished thank-you cards came from a graduating senior on closing night. It read:

"I never had you as a teacher (and as I write this, I realize how impossible that seems, given that I’ve learned more from you in the past four years than I have from any class)."

This sentiment captures the essence of my approach to education—it extends beyond formal lessons within four walls and often unfolds in raw, unscripted moments that leave lasting impressions. It is shaped through the continual refinement of our craft over time, grounded in the understanding that this field demands growth and evolution the longer we commit to it.

Theater is that rare art form that demands more from us—more creativity, more dedication, and more passion. It brings together diverse academic disciplines, uniting them in pursuit of a singular vision, and in doing so, it challenges us to grow, to connect, and to inspire. Most importantly, it allows us to ignite that same passion in the next generation of theater artists, empowering them to carry the craft forward and shape the stories of tomorrow.
